A Recap Of The First NFL Hackathon

It’s time for a post game day report from the first-ever NFL Hackathon! If you were lucky enough to attend the event, thanks for hanging out with us and the NFL!

Perfect Pass! Perfect Pass!

AngelHack and NFL Media would like to congratulate the winning team of the first-ever NFL Hackathon, Perfect Pass! Their project used machine learning to analyze which receiver is best for the quarterback to throw to. Lucas, Ian, Vishvesh and Lily’s hard work paid off! They will be receiving $10,000 and a roundtrip flight to the NFL LA campus for a day, demo their hack to NFL engineers & staff, and tour the NFL Media Field House & Gridiron Studios!

Coming in second place was, Running Back Rating!

This lucky group of gentlemen received $5,000 to take home for their awesome idea! They created a holistic measure of determining a running back’s score on 5 metrics to help improve future plays

Play Classifier Play Classifier

Lastly our 3rd place winners are Play Classifier!

They received a cool $2,500 for their work this past weekend! Their idea lets the fans search and see success rates of similar plays.

There were so many creative and inspiring projects – including two that focused on supporting NFL fans with disabilities. Team Game Sign by Maxwell was designed to provide real-time sign-language coverage to fans. Team NFL Voice Assistant by Kevin & Adnaan created a mechanism for fans to get game stats via voice recognition and playback.

We want to give a huge shoutout to all of our other teams, you guys all killed it and made this a tough one for the judges. Even though not everyone went home with some cash in hand, we still had an awesome event that included football games projected 24/7 on a giant wall to watch while sitting in one of our super comfortable recliners (best napping spot ever)!

We even had some Xbox’s set up so hackers could take a break from coding and get there Madden fix in. Oh and how could we forget about the awesome food trucks and Panera Bread breakfasts!

Needless to say we thoroughly enjoyed spending the weekend in San Francisco with you all. Can’t wait to take the field with all of you again soon!
